She believes that the quality of a city is determined by the quality of its pedestrian experience. As a child. she walked or cycled to school, market and to friend's homes. Today the public spaces in our cities are for motorized/non-motorized vehicles hawkers, squatters or garbage dumps. In short for every one besides the pedestrians to whom it rightfully belongs. Pedestrians are forced to walk on the road as all pavement spaces are occupied. There is absolutely no sympathy for the elderly, differently abled and the children. You need to be young and agile to be able to navigate your way in our public domain.
She feels it is imperative that we bring back the pedestrian by creating safe, secure and vibrant environment. She recommends out-of-the-box design solutions that use the existing parameters of our cities and form pedestrian linkages.
Through this webinar she wants to urge every architect to take up a project in their area and attempt a design solution that encourages safe and inclusive pedestrian movement. Lighting is a key ingredient to #myrighttowalk and she supports it too.
Let’s listen to her as what she stands for - our basic right and also for our next generations.
